Erin: Beauty Rep & Substitute Teacher

Name: Erin Murphy

Age: 31

City: Greenville, South Carolina

Main Hustle: Mama to an almost two year old, Mae!

I also work from home providing marketing work to a local insurance agent as well as to Read GA Family Law (a company started by my dad to provide up-to-date cases to family law attorneys in Georgia).

Side Hustle: I sell Lipsense products and substitute at Mae’s school from time to time!

Do you have a website, store, or social media presence?: Interested in purchasing Lipsense products? DM me on Instagram, eringmurphy. I’d love for you to try it – it’s fantastic!

How did you get started?: Honestly. I think it was a God thing. I went back to work full time after I had Mae and after being there for a few months, I knew I needed a change. At the same time, the opportunities with both the insurance agent and Read GA Family Law came up and have given me the opportunity to have the flexibility I needed but also work and contribute. I started selling Lipsense recently because I fell in love with their products. As a mama on the go, I needed something that would stay on all day and this product does. It’s amazing!

When/where do you work on your Side Hustle?: All from home! I schedule my day around Mae and when she’s in school, so I work really anytime I have free time…usually during nap!

What are the challenges of your Side Hustle?: See above – I work from home! While the benefits most definitely outweigh the challenges, it can be difficult to get done what I need to get done while taking care of Mae. She’s an active toddler for sure!

What are the rewards of your Side Hustle?: The ability to provide for my family, have flexibility during the day, spend quality time with Mae, but also contribute and do what I love to do. It truly has been such a blessing!

Who is your greatest supporter?: Most definitely my husband, Hunter.

Who/what is your greatest source of inspiration?: No doubt my mom. She’s the biggest hustler I know—I don’t think she sits down until she goes to bed at night, and I definitely got that from her.

What is your dream for your Side Hustle?: To empower other mamas to do the same and do what they love! It certainly took a leap of faith to leave my secure, full-time job to go part-time and from home with multiple side hustles, but it has been the best decision for me and for our family. I knew I wasn’t meant to stay at home full-time, nor could we do that financially, but I also knew I wanted to be able to take Mae to the zoo or the doctor without having to ask permission, so I made that happen. I want all mamas to fulfill their passion, whether that be in an office from 9-5, home all day with their precious little ones, or part-time!

Do you have any advice for others working on a Side Hustle?:

You can do it! I was super nervous to work while having a baby at home, but it can be done! The best advice: schedule your time and stick to it. Get up early, make use of the time they are at school or nap…it can be done!

What is your dream for your Side Hustle?: My dream for my side hustle would be to make it a full-time job and be my own boss!

Lauren: Beauty Director, Clean Living Consultant, Founder of Detox Me Tuesday

Name: Lauren Breiding

Age: 28

City: Los Angeles

Side Hustle: Clean Living/Beautycounter Consultant

How did you get started?: I jumped into Beautycounter about three and a half years ago because I saw it as a good business opportunity and I wanted to be a part of what the founder, Gregg Renfrew, was doing. Shortly after joining I started learning about the lack of regulation in our everyday products. I could not believe this information! Virtually anything can be put in the products we use everyday, and it doesn’t have to be disclosed. After learning that environmental toxins play such a huge role on our health, I couldn’t go back. I started switching to safer products in the home and documenting them in a Facebook group and on Instagram. I was shocked at the responses! So many questions were sent my way, and people really appreciated the simple education. About two years ago, it seemed like every circle of my life was being affected by cancer, infertility, and other illnesses that had zero hereditary connection, including the death of my father-in-law. That was when I got the passion and drive to share digestible education on how people can switch to safer products in the home. Every single switch helps to lower your toxic load, and if I can be an encouraging voice to help others do this, then I am happy.

When/where do you work?: When I am not doing Switch to Safer events or taking meetings, I work from home normally in the afternoons and on the weekends.

What are the challenges of your Side Hustle?: The main challenge is working with people. While that is one of the greatest rewards, it is hard when people are not on your timeline, don’t grasp the information you are sharing, or simply are not supportive. I have learned to lean into supportive relationships and trust my gut.

What are the rewards of your Side Hustle?: Not only is it helpful financially, but I have made so many friendships that I would not have otherwise.

I have learned so much from the community I work with. I cannot imagine my life any other way. I get to help people make safer choices for their own health, for the health of their families, and for future generations! What more could you want?

Who is your greatest supporter?: My husband, Greg. We collaborate on a lot of the content I create. He is my video producer, video editor, and content creator. We have so much fun working on these projects together, and he loves to see me light up when I do what I am passionate about.

Who/what is your greatest source of inspiration?: Do-it-better brands (as I like to call them) and people. We are in an age where everyone is so hungry for valuable information and education that I get so inspired when I see brands that are stepping up and giving back, creating safer products, educating their clients, etc. I want to connect consumers with these brands by highlighting and collaborating with them. Secondly, I say people, because I think everyone has a story to tell. Whether it is other influencers who I am learning from, people who are willing to ask questions and learn, or people who have a health issue that cannot be explained, these people keep me motivated every day.

Have you received recognition for your work? If so, please toot your horn below so we can include these details in your profile.: I am a leader in Beautycounter and work with a team of women across the United States. I have been featured and collaborated with a lot of safer brands through my social media platforms.

What is your dream for your Side Hustle?: I would like to be a full time clean living consultant meshing both Beautycounter and Detox Me Tuesday together. Through growth, I want to be a positive, trusted voice for anyone on a Switch to Safer journey by utilizing this information in homes and online consulting.

Do you have any advice for others working on a Side Hustle?:

Just start and be your authentic self! You never know what will work until you begin. Stay true to who you are. No one can speak to the the world the way YOU can.
