Samantha: Bridal Beauty, Health, and Wellness Consultant

Name: Samantha McKay

Side Hustle: Bridal Constultant re: health/wellness/beauty.
Spirited Bride is a place for women to find helpful resources, guides, ideas, and reminders to take time for themselves throughout their wedding planning journey. I’m passionate about helping brides radiate confidence from the inside-out and can provide a step-by-step plan to ensure your mind, body, & spirit are ready for your big day!

How did you get started?: I worked in sales for several luxury haircare brands for more than three years. I absolutely loved being a professional in the beauty industry. About 9 months ago, an opportunity in education sales came up, and it was something I couldn’t turn down. I knew it would be a step in the right direction for my career, but I still wanted to find an outlet to utilize the skills and knowledge I gained from the beauty biz. I wracked my brain for over a year about how exactly I wanted to do this. I knew I had to be strategic about it and think of how my brand and message could be unique in order to stand out. I was planning a wedding at the time and fell in love with the wedding industry. From there my idea streamlined into a consulting business for brides. It grew from wishing I had someone to guide me & my wellbeing throughout that journey.

When/where do you work?: Since I have a very demanding full-time job, I work on my side hustle over the weekend and at night or early in the morning. I’m based in New Orleans, which also happens to be the second largest destination wedding city!

What are the challenges of your Side Hustle?: I wanted to create a very niche concept, but with that comes the challenge of ensuring potential clients see the value. There are so many costs involved with weddings these days, so making sure my message comes across as an expense worth investing in can be challenging.

What are the rewards of your Side Hustle?:

I am so passionate about women empowering women and doing anything I can to help another female realize their potential! I love seeing the happiness and spirit that brides radiate, and if I have even a tiny bit to do with that, then I’m the happiest!

Who is your greatest supporter?: My husband and my family (mom, dad, & sister) Having people to build you up and let’s be real to tell you when you are or aren’t being crazy at any given time is the best support anyone could ask for. They keep me going and are always there when I need a sounding board.

Who/what is your greatest source of inspiration?: Inspiration is everywhere, and I’m surprised by where it comes from sometimes. Other female entrepreneurs, especially those that are changing the standard and fighting for our voice to be heard are big sources of inspiration for me. Emily Weiss, founder of Glossier and Hillary Kerr, co-founder of Who What Wear, Byrdie Beauty & MyDomaine are two of my favorites. I love a good business podcast that shares someone’s journey to success. My friends are also a group of bad ass women I love who keep me inspired.

Have you received recognition for your work?: Spirited Bride is a fairly new venture, but I will say the amount of love and support I received after announcing it was so amazing! It’s one thing to believe in yourself, but when you have others who believe in you, it is so powerful!

What is your dream for your Side Hustle?: A huge dream of mine would be to one day write a book where all of my ‘best of’ content could live. Another dream is for Spirited Bride to grow into a community of creatives who collaborate and work together, share ideas, and make this world a better place.

Do you have any advice for others working on a Side Hustle?: GO FOR IT!

Don’t try to make it perfect or wait for the ‘right time’. If there is something you want to do and are passionate about, the rest will come! Create a business plan to keep you laser focused on your goals and keep your vision at the forefront. Be your authentic self always!
